Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions for the 2018 Society of Systematic Biologists meeting:

Where will the meeting be held?
The meeting will take place on the campus of Ohio State University. Specifically, we will use rooms in Jennings Hall and Aronoff Labs on the south part of campus. A social will be held on Saturday evening at the Museum of Biological Diversity.
What is the deadline for the meeting?
The deadline for registration is March 31st.
What is the deadline for talk/poster submissions?
Our deadline for contributions is March 31st.
How do I upload my presentation?
Speakers will be emailed with details about presentations once the registration has closed, but we anticipate using a five minute lightning talk format.
Can I change my registration to a different workshop?
Yes! Please email meeting organizers to modify and existing meeting registration or to sign up for a different workshop.
Is there space left in the dorms?
We’ve filled nearly 2/3rds of the available space in the dorms at this time. OSU dorm rooms are doubles that are part of a suite of 3 rooms such that six people would share a bathroom, living room, and kitchenette. Dorm reservations and roommate requests can be made on the meeting registration site, or by emailing conference organizers.
How do I request a roommate for the doubles in the dorms?
Please email conference organizers with roommate requests. We’ll add them to our spreadsheet and make assignments in the week before the meeting.
Is parking available at the meeting?
Yes! Parking spaces at The Ohio State University are owned by a private company CampusParc, who will happily sell you a parking pass for the duration of the meeting. If you are driving to Columbus and staying in the dorms, you will want to purchase a pass. The conference hotel has free parking.
Is there a conference hotel?
Yes! We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hyatt Place Columbus. Reservations can be made on the Hyatt website using the group booking code G-OBIO. Note that our meeting takes place on the same weekend as the state Track and Field meet of the Ohio High School Athletics Association, so you’ll want to book a hotel room early. Also note that SSB is committed to a block of rooms, so reservations made at the conference hotel will help the society avoid any penalties for unsold rooms.
What information is required for talk submission?
Very little! We ask for a title and the names of the authors. We also ask for a brief description that will be used for the purposes of organizing the talks. This is not an abstract, and will not be published.
When will the schedule be posted?
We plan to post the schedule on May 1st as a pdf that can be downloaded from the meeting website. We will also provide a paper copy at registration.
