Dr. Amanda Rodewald, Director of Conservation Science, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, will present Strategic Conservation and Co-Benefits in Working Landscapes from 4:10-5:30PM in 164 Howlett Hall.
The global conservation community has moved beyond its traditional emphasis on establishing protected areas to advancing translational approaches that achieve a wide range of social, economic, and ecological co-benefits for people and the environment, especially within working landscapes. This paradigm shift was a necessary recognition of the competing pressures for land and resources and, hence, need to produce the greatest returns on conservation investments. However, despite clear demonstrations of the potential to derive co-benefits in working landscapes, few scalable approaches have been implemented. In her seminar, Amanda will highlight innovative and flexible approaches to leverage and apply global crowd-sourced data to conserve and monitor biodiversity, safeguard ecosystem services, and support human health and well-being.
