Ohio State News highlighted a recent Ecological Indicators publication by EEOB Ph.D. student, Seth Drake, EEOB assistant professors, Casey Pennock and Lindsey Bruckerhoff, and EEOB Curator of Mollusks, Crustaceans, and General Invertebrates, Nate Shoobs.

Their observations indicated that as water quality improved, 71 fish species and 171 insect groups became more common across the state of Ohio, large river basins, with only a few species decreasing. Freshwater mussels had mixed responses over time, however, with 9 species increasing and 10 decreasing in occurrence, indicating the need for continued water quality improvements and potentially conservation efforts to repatriate mussels with low dispersal capabilities.
