Summary

Corallorhiza trifida Châtel., illustrated here as Plate 2000, is a widely distributed orchid, occurring in temperate and subarctic regions of Eurasia and North America. It is an inconspicuous species that can be difficult to spot due to its lack of leaves and predominantly subterranean life history. Although it produces some chlorophyll, it is a mycoheterotroph dependent on its fungal associates for much of its nutrition, and it is difficult or impossible to cultivate.
